Mr. Robert P. Thimot, '53 and Mrs. Barbara A. Thimot

This scholarship was established by Robert P. and Barbara A. Thimot. George Thimot, Jr. is Robert’s twin brother. From Robert’s obituary: “Robert Peter (Bob) Thimot, 84, passed away in 2013 having been predeceased by his wife Barbara. Bob and Barbara retired to Reno in 1985 because he loved fly fishing, shooting craps, and poker. They quickly adopted Reno as their home and became enthusiastic westerners. Wanting to give something back to his hometown back east, Bob established the Robert P. Thimot Scholarship at his alma mater the University of Massachusetts for graduates of Hudson High School. He and Barbara were also generous donors to the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation and set up the Robert & Barbara Thimot Scholarship at Truckee Meadows Community College. Bob and his twin brother George were born in 1929 in Boston, the sons of the late George and Jesse Thimot. He joined the army after attending Hudson High School in Hudson, Massachusetts and served in Korea. He attended the University of Massachusetts on the GI Bill, graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Out of college he worked for Chrysler in Michigan and earned a Masters in Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute. He went back to Hudson to work with his father and founded the Hudson Lock Company. He oversaw the growth of the Company from a small start-up to a 600 employee manufacturer that in its heyday produced 15 million locks a year. After retiring to Reno, he and Barbara travelled extensively. When home, he could usually be found thigh deep in a promising trout stream or at a local hold em tournament.”
