The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Dr. Eileen Hayes’ memory and promote the continuation of her work. The faculty of the School of Nursing, nurse practitioner students, alumni, and friends have a high regard for Dr. Hayes’ distinguished career and for her contributions to the field of Nursing.
Dr. Hayes’ teaching was driven by her passion for mentoring and coaching; this interest was a major part of her many professional publications and research. She had no patience for the old punitive and harsh teaching styles that she considered to be traumatizing and counter-productive. She sought to change this, certainly in her classroom but also in the academic community via her numerous publications. At the time of her death, she was preparing a research proposal to explore coaching as a teaching tool and as a method to help practitioners gain more compliance from diabetic patients. This endowed annual scholarship will be awarded to a graduate nursing student with similar interests as Dr. Hayes.
This scholarship was established by Dr. Patrick J. Hayes, and upon his passing in 2022, his daughter Mrs. Suzanne Hayes-Daviau and son Mr. Sean D. Hayes oversees the scholarship.
