Christie and Chinua Achebe Scholarship Fund
The Christie and Chinua Achebe Scholarship Fund is aimed at promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive scholarly environment in which outstanding undergraduate students support the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the university. Recipients should have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Afro-American Studies or students with demonstrated interest in Native American and indigenous heritage. Examples of demonstrated interest may include, but are not limited to, undergraduate students involved in research, coursework, or student organizations focusing on race and ethnicity, and topics relating to inequality and barriers to equitable human advancement. The scholarship review committee must include members of the Department of Afro-American Studies and may also include the Associate Dean of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, who oversees this process.
Please note that this application requires a faculty letter of recommendation. Faculty recommenders should send their brief letter of recommendation to Professor Yolanda Covington-Ward at ycovingtonwa@umass.edu.
