The Karen List Award for Excellence in Student Reporting
The Karen List Award for Excellence in Student Reporting is named after longtime journalism professor Karen List. Her devotion to her students, ethical journalism, and excellence in student media spanned generations. Regardless of genre, winning entries of this award will demonstrate the best principles of journalistic practice by exhibiting intelligent and ethical reporting in service of their local community.
This competitive award is open to all current UMass Amherst journalism majors and any published work of journalism may be submitted, including work published in student media and in outlets where a student interned or freelanced. All genres of written, visual, broadcast and multimedia journalism may be considered for the award. Submitted pieces should feature original reporting. The work must have been published during the calendar year before the application’s due date.
