Colleagues and Friends of Dean Priscilla Clarkson in the Commonwealth Honors Program

Colleagues and friends of Dean Priscilla M. Clarkson contributed to a scholarship in her memory. Born Priscilla Massei, she grew up in Worcester as the older of two children. Her late father, Edward, ran his own print shop. At UMass Amherst, she received a bachelor’s in zoology in 1969, a master’s in marine science and zoology in 1973, and a doctorate in exercise science and human movement in 1977, the year she began her teaching career as an assistant professor in the department of exercise science.

Her career spanned 36 years. She received the UMass Chancellor’s Medal in 1997 and was named a Distinguished Professor of Kinesiology in 2008. She was a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and served as president of the New England Regional Chapter and vice-president of the national organization, among her positions. She also served as associate dean for the UMass Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences. In 2006, she was appointed Dean of Commonwealth Honors College. As dean of Commonwealth Honors College , Dr. Clarkson was the key administrator guiding to completion the College’s Residential Community, into which students moved into in fall 2013.
