David and Leigh Weisblat
David Weisblat is a 1975 graduate of UMass Amherst. He and his wife Leigh established the scholarship in honor of his parents, Abe and Jan Weisblat.
Abe Weisblat (1919 – 1998) was an agricultural economist who emphasized networking and nourishing human capital, especially in developing countries. He was educated in the great land-grant tradition that gave birth to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Jan Weisblat (1918 – 2011) was a linguist, educator, and antique dealer that never said “no” to an adventure. Both Abe and Janice loved western Massachusetts and knew that a strong education nourishes a person throughout life. They firmly believed that a good education should be available to all regardless of ability to pay. Both took pride in their son David and his education at UMass Amherst.
