Mrs. Claudette C. Sweeney, '57 and Members of the Class of 1957

This scholarship was established with Claudette C. Sweeney, member of the Class of 1957 as the lead donor, in memory of The Honorable John T. Sweeney, Claudette’s husband. The Honorable John “Jack” T. Sweeney was a member of the Class of 1956, with a major in History and a concentration in Political Science. Upon graduation from UMass Amherst, Jack went on to earn a degree from Suffolk University Law School, and had a successful career that eventually led him to serve as a United States Administrative Law Judge for 25 years. Jack was active in numerous civic and political activities in Reading and Boston, but was most proud of his work for UMass Amherst as a past member of the Board of Trustees, past president of the UMass Amherst Alumni Association, and a variety of other committees for his Alma Mater. Jack passed away after a long illness at 71 years of age, shortly after he attended and celebrated his 50th Reunion at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
