Geology Research/Fieldwork Awards Application

This is the common application for the following Geology awards:
1. Gloria Radke Memorial Fund: a prize or scholarship to one or more students in the Geology Program of the Department of Geosciences The preferred use is for direct support of field research of geology students but there is no intent to restrict recipients’ use of the funds. Recipients should be excellent students, and should exhibit outstanding promise as future members of the geological profession.

2. Andrew D. Wise Memorial Endowment: Provides support to students in the Geology Program for expenses and for programs or items for which other sources of support are not available. Examples of the types of expenses for which support is to be made available include, but are not limited to: research travel expenses, especially for field travel with researchers in order to be involved with their research and to generate data for student research projects; travel to meetings in order to present results of student research; research expenses for expendable items including film, software, key books or journals, satellite images, and geophysical data sets; travel expenses for Five College field trips (extensive travel) that are partially funded by Five Colleges, Inc. but typically require a student contribution toward costs; and emergency situations—for student expenses for books, supplies, or fees. Applications by students must include supporting rationale.

3. H.T.U. Memorial Geology Fund: Provides one or more awards to undergraduate and graduate students (including freshmen and graduating seniors), regularly enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. Awards shall be for tuition, fees, research and to defray the expenses in connection with geological field work, with emphasis on summer field studies or research. Recipients will be students majoring in geology selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and merit of research project.

4. Leo M. Hall Memorial Fund: Supports geological field work by students in the Department of Geosciences The preferred use is for direct support of field research or field course work, but there is no intent to restrict the recipient’s use of the funds. Recipients should be excellent students and exhibit outstanding promise as future members of the geological profession. A strong interest in field geology is important but not required.

5. Eleanor Fierman Memorial Fund: The award is given to an undergraduate or graduate student studying geology, with no restrictions on use of the award by recipients.

6. Aaron Beltzer Memorial Scholarship: The Aaron Beltzer Memorial Fund provides support to one or more Department of Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences graduate students. Priority will be given to students conducting field or laboratory research focused on better understanding the earth through geological research.
