Kathryn F. Furcolo Award

THE KATHRYN F. FURCOLO AWARD is presented by the University’s Career Development Hub Field Experience Program to outstanding Interns in unpaid public service or governmental internships. The award(s) will be presented by the Field Experience Program at the conclusion of the 2024 Spring Semester for Internships completed in either the Winter 2022/23, Spring 2023, Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 semesters. (Students participating in Winter 2023/24 and Spring 2024 internships may apply for next year’s award.)

AWARD
The recipients will be honored and receive an award up to a maximum of $2,000.00, depending upon how many qualified applicants are chosen.

CRITERIA
Criteria for the KATHRYN F. FURCOLO AWARD include:
1. Approved Internship Contract submitted in Handshake for at least one academic credit.
2. Enrollment in at least one academic internship credit during the semester of the internship.
3. Closeness of the Internship to the intent of the award.
4. Successful integration of academic theory with experience.
5. Internship performance/contribution to the agency.
7. Submission of application including four (4) essay questions.
8. Two (2) confidential letters of endorsement.* (see below).

Applicants must be current students in good standing with the University, and must have used the services of the Career Development Hub Field Experience Program during their internship by having submitted an approved internship application in Handshake and by having earned academic credit for the internship.

Letters of endorsement are not intended to be character references but rather are to be endorsements of the intern’s performance and contribution to the agency, as well as the intern’s intellectual growth resulting from the internship. The letters must be marked confidential. In order to have your letters of endorsement submitted, you will enter in the writers’ names and email addresses, and they will receive an email request directly from AcademicWorks to submit their letters confidentially.
