Charles Mark Scholarship for the Study of Foreign Language

The Charles Mark scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who are studying any language available through the Five College Center for Study of World Languages. * Applicants must be studying or have studied the chosen language through the Center*.

This scholarship is designed to encourage students to study their chosen language where it is spoken. Prospective recipients are encouraged to focus on improving their spoken language skills by arranging accommodations with a family or by living in a youth dormitory rather than by taking formal courses offered at private or public institutions. These funds can be also used by students teaching English in a foreign country and who are interested in improving their proficiency in the country’s primary language. The award can be used for travel to or living expenses in the target-language country.
