James Underwood Crockett Horticultural Award

James Underwood Crockett ’35 was a nationally known horticulturalist and writer. The James Underwood Crockett Horticultural Award was established after his death by gifts and donations from family and friends. The award is given annually to a senior enrolled in a two-year degree program in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. Students should be involved in the study of a science relative to plants of beauty and usefulness, such as garden flowers, ornamental shrubs and trees, vegetables and fruits for the home garden, house plants and landscape design. Recipients are selected based on their commitment, motivation, and vision, with a promise of fulfilling some outstanding purpose because of the encouragement and inspiration this award might generate in them.
