Joseph L. Boscov Scholarship Endowment

This application is for nominees only. Every department or degree program may nominate only one student for the Boscov Fellowship—do not submit application materials unless you have been nominated by your department.

The Graduate School invites applications for the 2021-22 Joseph L. Boscov Fellowship. According to the terms of the endowment, the Boscov Fellowship is awarded annually to a female identifying individual who is 35 or older at the time of application, whose studies will equip her for increased service to the needs of people and/or the environment. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students in a campus-based degree program.

The value of the 2022-23 Boscov Fellowship will be approximately $6,000. This amount should qualify the recipient for a one semester tuition credit. The Fellowship does not pay for health insurance or other graduate fees.

Every department or interdepartmental degree program may nominate only one student for the Boscov Fellowship.

The nominee should then submit the following application materials by Friday, April 15th via AcademicWorks:

1. Complete the general application questions as posted in AcademicWorks.
2. Upload a one-page narrative describing your research, how this work serves the needs of people and/or the environment, and how the Boscov Fellowship would contribute to your financial success at UMass (single-spaced, 12 pt. font).
3. Upload a current CV
4. Upload a current unofficial transcript (available from SPIRE)
5. The student’s faculty advisor/PI submits a letter of recommendation describing the potential contributions of the student’s research and quality of the student’s work in the graduate program. (The applicant enters the advisor’s name and contact information in AcademicWorks, which will generate an email to that individual requesting the letter.)
