(Jimmy) Hiu Fai Cheung

(Jimmy) Hiu Fai Cheung is a 2011 graduate of UMass Amherst. During his undergraduate years at UMass Amherst, Jimmy was a very active MinuteMan; majoring in Business Management, Economics, and Psychology, earning the Five College International Relations Certificate, summa cum laude, while working full-time as a Resident Assistant and actively participating in the Student Government Association and Area Government. He has a deep respect for financially disadvantaged students who demonstrate leadership through high academic performance and active involvement in the UMass Amherst community.

After graduation, Jimmy spent some time working in corporate finance before he realized he wanted a career that would allow him to create a more direct, tangible impact to tackle critical global issues facing us today. He then began his work in the renewable energy sector, where for the past several years he has led the development and productization of award-winning, next-generation hybrid clean energy technologies that are helping to shape and transform the energy industry.

Influenced heavily by his professional experience, Jimmy developed a passion for sustainability, particularly in the domain of low-carbon energy generation, which he believes is a key solution to combating climate change and its impacts. He hope the UMass Sustainability Scholarship will encourage on-campus theory, application, and collaboration that will lead to more innovation designed to tackle the toughest sustainability challenges of today and tomorrow.
